The murder of Andrea Felder meant little to Food Go pharmacy manager Ruthie Kantor Morris until enlightened by her friend, Denise Seaford, a waitress at Food Go. Andrea was the ex-wife of Denise's boyfriend, lawyer Sterling Harraday. Denise was also moonlighting as a home-helper for the dead woman's father. All of this points the police directly at Denise and Sterling. In desperation they both ask Ruthie to find the real murderer.
Ruthie continues to protest that she is not a private investigator, but they beg her for help. In the past Ruthie has helped the police with a couple of cases, using her expert knowledge as a pharmacist. So with much prodding, she gives in and half-heartedly investigates Andrea's death. To her dismay she begins to wonder about Denise's innocence when she learns that Denise hasn't been completely honest with her.
The police have ruled out Andrea's father as a suspect because of his health, but Ruthie learns of a medication he is taking that could make it possible for him to commit the murder. She also learns that he has a strong motive-Andrea caused the accident that put him in a wheelchair. When someone informs the police of the medication, everyone assumes it was Ruthie and becomes angry with her. In the midst of her investigation she must deal with yet another murder, the fact that her staff pharmacist is being abused, and a mysterious stranger that has been seen at Denise's home.
As the story progresses, Ruthie finds herself in a hostage situation and nearly a murder victim herself.
RX ALIBI is the third book in the Ruthie Kantor Morris series, which all take place in Scottsdale, Arizona. Ruthie is a spunky, middle-aged woman who proves that it's never too late to find love and excitement. Renee Horowitz provides the reader with a complex puzzle and realistic characters.
